Photo submission
Show us what's on the shelf
Walk into a store, photograph what you find, and leave. Your photos are some of the strongest evidence we have of what's actually being sold — and how easily kids can reach it.
Before you go
- You must be 21 or older.
- Don't buy anything. Photograph what's on the shelf and leave.
- Photographs only — never video or audio. In about a dozen states, recording a conversation without everyone's consent is a crime.
- Follow store rules. Ask before photographing if you need to, and leave if you're asked to.
What to photograph
Required
The product on the shelf
Show where it sits and what's around it. This is the photo that shows how easy it is to reach.
Required
A close-up of the label
Ingredients, dosing, directions, warnings — whatever the package does or doesn't say. Usually the most valuable photo you'll take.
If you can
The package, front and back
Only if it's already within reach. Don't ask to handle a product you're not buying — that's a conversation we'd rather you never have to have.
Before you leave the store, pinch to zoom in on your photo. If you can read the ingredient list on your own screen, we can read it too.
What happens to your photos
- We publish them. Photos like yours appear in news coverage, reports to lawmakers, social media, and printed materials.
- You choose your credit. Anonymous is the default. You can also be credited by first name and last initial, or by your full name.
- You can decline publication and still submit. We'll keep the photo for research and won't publish it.
- We don't publish store names or addresses alongside the photos.
Ready?
One submission covers one product. If you found several, fill the form out again for each.
Takes about 10 minutes. You'll need to sign in to a Google account to upload photos — we use it only to receive your files.
